L is a Batman-level detective, and Tamaki is stereotypical on purpose because Ouran is a parody of shoujo manga. 

I do think the guys from the 90’s animes were more my type than the bishounen are physically, but that doesn’t mean the bishounen aren’t sometimes well-written.
